Who is Raven L. Veal, PhD?

“Hi! My name is Raven. I’m a strategic design lead at Citi Ventures and lecturer for the School of Design and Creative Technologies at UT.

Prior to joining Citi, I was a design researcher at IBM where I launched the Watson Health Design Justice Initiative to address health disparities through digital offerings, and supported the movement to advance racial equity in design. My work on both efforts inspired the transition to my current role—progressing Citi’s Action for Racial Equity by exploring the use of emerging tech to enable a more inclusive digital economy.

In my spare time, you can find me evaluating new ventures as a SWAN Impact Advisor, providing mentorship and community for current/aspiring researchers, and producing short films (and occasional raps) about design, faith, and Afrofuturism.” (source)
