Who is Schessa Garbutt?
“Schessa Garbutt (she/they) is the founder and creative force behind Firebrand. While her core creative talents lie in brand identity design, she is also an avid writer, speaker, and blossoming type designer. Recently at SF Design Week she gave a talk titled ‘Black Lives Matter is Not A Design Sprint,’ critiquing our design practices and calling for a radical, industry-wide shift.
Prior to founding Firebrand, Schessa led design at UNUM and then worked at Clever Creative under Amy Wilk, all while moonlighting as a freelance designer for small businesses and start-ups. She was continuously drawn to the passion of founders and entrepreneurs working to better their respective industries. Schessa realized that when we each commit ourselves to making our corner of the world more just and more green, we trend toward a brighter future. All of these experiences sparked Firebrand, a studio committed to doing better.
Schessa received a B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Southern California.” (source)
